FACT is seeking a motivated and proficient Maintenance & Boatyard Operative, to support the work of our yacht-berthing operations and the maintenance of our site; and who has a desire to participate in the Christian witness and community life of the centre and surrounding saltmarsh.

About the role:

We are looking for a high-calibre person to join our team to further enhance our maintenance team and support the day to day operation of our boat yard. This role serves both the outdoor activity centre, FACT, and the berthing company, TSL – which is wholly owned by FACT and compliments the work of the trust in maintaining the saltmarsh environment and providing services to the boat owners. As Maintenance & Boatyard Operative you will have responsibility for, helping to provide a high standard of berthing to our berth holders; ensuring that TSL is effectively serving its customers; maintaining the site, lightvessel and buildings and; supporting the work of FACT. This includes good customer liaison, practical skills in carpentry and construction tasks as well as a good knowledge of handling boats. We hope that the post holder would bring experience and expertise to enable them to do much of the work, however training would be provided where needed. Alongside the functions specific to this role, is the Christian witness to our customers and community that all staff participate in.

This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary range of £25,000-£28,000 dependent on experience; generous pension contribution and essential training & PPE are provided. See below for more of the benefits of joining our team.

About you:

We are looking for someone with:

  • the right to live and work in the UK
  • a lively personal Christian faith, expressed intelligently and sensitively – it is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that post holder has a Christian faith
  • competence in woodworking skill to undertake berth & walkway building & repairs
  • competence in basic marine engine, plant & plumbing maintenance
  • good seamanship skills with a familiarity with berthing craft
  • a commitment to excellent health & safety practice
  • an Enhanced DBS (or willing to undertake this safeguarding check)

Fellowship Afloat Charitable Trust (FACT) is a lively Christian community where the spirit of adventure and love of God are shared with all who visit our centre. We are based on a converted lightvessel, Trinity, and welcome nearly 2,000 young people each year, with most of those being for a residential experience.
