Year-out/gap year staff
Every September FACT welcomes a new team of year-out staff. Typically these exciting posts are filled by students either before or after a degree, but are open to anyone who wants to apply.
Full training is provided during the year, with lots of opportunity to develop a whole range of skills for life - it is a life changing year. But don't just take our word for it, hear what some past team members have to say about their year at FACT...

We ideally need sailors with an RYA advanced module equivalent to get you started, and there will be plenty of opportunity to gather more training experience and qualifications through the year. While the focus will be sailing tuition there will be a dose of boat repairs and equipment care. The climbing wall, high ropes, kayaking, archery and team building games all need lots of enthusiastic leaders and also ideas for development. You'll have accommodation onboard Trinity and a monthly allowance – and it will be the experience of a lifetime. Your Christian faith will have plenty of scope for exercise and development too.
It's best if you've had some experience of catering for numbers – but not essential. You'll need to be full of energy, have good ideas for new sandwich fillings, be able to work in conditions of high heat and a big dose of humour and not prone to panic, when numbers for dinner double unexpectedly. There will be opportunities to engage in group work and even get a sail or two in the estuary. The FACT food department is one of the most crucial parts of our operation – you'll never be short of friends! Rewards are numerous – but you'll certainly get pocket money per month and a cabin onboard.
You’ll support the Administrator in a wide range of office duties, and have primary contact with guests and enquirers.
Working in a busy and lively environment where flexibility, good inter-personal and verbal communication skills are vital, together with high attention to detail and the operation of good office practice. Duties include course booking and administration, telephone enquiries, PC-based book keeping, word processing and spreadsheet production, general office work, support for the activity staff team, and deputisation for administrator.
It’s not just about being in the office you’ll have the opportunity to partake in Sail, High ropes and First aid training as well as getting along side our groups while living onboard. You’ll play an important part in the FACT community and have a lively personal Christian faith, expressed intelligently and sensitively.
