Wrapping around the Essex coast from the Thames Estuary to the sands of Clacton-on-Sea are over 400 miles of seawall. Areas like the Dengie Penninsula, Old Hall Marshes and settlements such as Maldon, Bradwell-on-Sea, Salcott-cum-Vireley make this area so fascinating and evocative. When you add to this tales of Viking invaders, Celtic Saints, Roman salt making, fish traps and Excise Men searching for illicit landings you have all the ingredients for an inspiring walking weekend. We occasionally present these weekends for individuals and specific walks can be built into any activity programme. |
